Worker dies while setting up Shakira’s stage in Rio

Colleagues tried to rescue a locksmith, who was trapped between 2 elevators; He was taken to the hospital and did not survive

A man died this Sunday (April 26, 2026) during the assembly of the stage for Colombian singer Shakira’s show, in Rio. Gabriel de Jesus Firmino, 28 years old, was an employee of MG Coutinho Scenographic Services. He was sandwiched between 2 elevators. He was taken to Miguel Couto Municipal Hospital, in the south of Rio, but died.

The case was registered at the 12th Police Station, in Copacabana. Expertise was called.

In a note sent to TV GloboBonustrack, organizer of the show, mourned his death.

“The organization of the event confirms that an accident on Sunday afternoon (26/04) regrettably killed a professional who was working on assembling the structures for the show. The rescuers provided the first assistance on site and the Fire Department was immediately called to transport the patient. Unfortunately, the professional died in the hospital. At this time, we are providing all support, hospitality and solidarity to the responsible company, its team and the victim’s family.”

The Fire Department was called at 3:20 pm. The corporation told the TV Globo that Firmino had his legs crushed and that, upon arriving at the scene, the worker had already been removed from where he was trapped by other employees. Despite the efforts of the rescue teams, the death was confirmed.”.

Shakira’s show is scheduled for May 2nd.
