Botafogo beat Independiente Petrolero 3-0 on Tuesday night (29), at the Nilton Santos stadium, in Rio de Janeiro, in the third round of the Sudamericana group stage.
Glorioso opened the scoring 15 minutes into the first half with Mateo Ponte, who received a cross from Alex Telles with great effect and finished first time into the back of the net. Before the break, the team wasted at least two clear opportunities. Arthur Cabral missed a chance in the small area after a good play by Kadir.
Then, a goal by Cristian Medina was disallowed for offside confirmed by VAR. The second half started with Botafogo maintaining the pressure. Goalkeeper Jhohan Gutiérrez had to make difficult saves to avoid a more elastic score in the opening minutes of the final stage.
At 17 of the second stage, Montoro expanded. Alex Telles took a free kick, Gutiérrez rebounded, and the number 10 took advantage to finish in the corner, with a deflection off Luis Palma before entering the goal. 2-0 for Botafogo.
Coach Martín Anselmi made four simultaneous substitutions at 21, with the additions of Santiago Rodríguez, Chris Ramos, Joaquín Correa and Fernando Marçal. Newton, who had just entered, scored the third goal at 31.
In a quick counterattack, the player received the ball on the right, entered the area and sent a cross into Gutiérrez’s right corner to close the score. Independiente Petrolero also saw Eduardo sent off at 44, after receiving a second yellow card for a foul on Chris Ramos.
With the result, they reached seven points in Group E, taking the isolated lead. Independiente Petrolero remains at the bottom, with three defeats in three matches and no points.
