The Federal Police returned this Monday (27) the work credentials of the United States agent who works at the institution’s headquarters in Brasília. The information was initially released by G1 this Tuesday (28).
The American employee’s work authorization had been withdrawn last week under the principle of reciprocity. It was applied after the Donald Trump government ordered Brazilian delegate Marcelo Ivo Carvalho, who worked in the case of the arrest of former deputy Alexandre Ramagem in the USA, to leave the country.
On the occasion, the general director of the PF, Andrei Rodrigues, reported that Brazil applied the principle to two American employees. One of them had his visa canceled and returned to the USA.
The other had access to the PF temporarily cut off and, consequently, was prevented from accessing the PF headquarters and the databases used in cooperation between the two countries. It was he who had the access restored.
When announcing the measure, Andrei Rodrigues said that the credentials would be suspended until Marcelo Ivo Carvalho’s situation was explained.
This Tuesday, the Senate invited Carvalho and the director of the PF to provide clarifications on the case. A hearing has yet to be scheduled.
