Nuno Correia da Silva announces candidacy for leadership of the CDS-PP

The former centrist deputy Nuno Correia da Silva will run again for leadership of the CDS-PP at the May congresspresenting a global motion in which he considers that the party needs to assert itself.

The national advisor presented one of the four global motions to the congress scheduled for May 16th and 17th, titled “Freedom in Motion”.

Speaking to the Lusa agency, Nuno Correia da Silva considered “It is important that the CDS once again have well-defined borders in the political space, that it once again has its flags and raises them high.”

O CDS-PP “needs affirmation and needs to be noticed”, he added, considering that there has been “a dilution of the party” in the coalition with the PSD, which took it back to parliament and the government.

Correia da Silva stated that It is not noted that the CDS-PP “is exercising influence in the Government” and pointed out a lack of ambition in the party led by Nuno Melo.

The candidate argued that if the centrist flags “are safeguarded within the AD coalition, as it must remain in the AD coalition”, but he must not “sacrifice ideas to go to the coalition”.

Nuno Correia da Silva gave as an example the changes in labor legislation, and considered that “the fundamental issue that is absent from the discussion is the appreciation of work and fair remuneration for work”.

“And this is an issue dear to the CDS, the value of work, the fair reward, feeling that it is worth producing. The CDS must be the party of producers, the party of taxpayers”, he maintained.

The candidate considered that the CDS-PP tem “to assume” also like the “party of the family and the party of solidarity, this is the matrix of Christian democracy”.

Nuno Correia da Silva presented a global strategy motion at the 2022 congress and presented himself as a candidate for leadership, but ended up withdrawing the motion and did not bring it to a vote.

Submitting a strategy motion does not imply, according to CDS regulations and statutes, a candidacy for leadership. However, “to be candidates for party president, members will have to be the first to sign a Global Strategy Motion”, according to congress regulations.
