Nearly 2 million people are expected for Shakira’s concert, which takes place next Saturday (2), on the beach of Copacabana, in Rio de Janeiro. According to the city hall and event organizers, municipal agents will work in several areas to ensure the success of the event and the functioning of the city.
To facilitate public movement, there will be a special transport operation, with exclusive lines leaving from Botafogo to Copacabana, in addition to 24-hour operation of the Metro and Line 1 of the Light Rail Vehicle (VLT).
The city hall also detailed the access and parking closures in Copacabana, which begin in the early hours of Saturday morning. In addition, 318 cameras will be used to monitor the Copacabana region, 162 of which will be installed on the waterfront and on roads close to the event.
“This is not the city of big events by chance. The city of Rio de Janeiro has expertise, a history of great achievements in the area of events that go far beyond city hall, government or public bodies. For us, parties are a serious matter”, said the mayor of Rio, Eduardo Cavalieri.

After the performance, from 0:15 am, another DJ takes over. “It will stay until 2 am for those who want to enjoy it more and leave more calmly, without the need to rush, helping the event to spread out safely”, explained the president of Riotur, Bernardo Fellows.
As occurred in other shows on the beach, there will be a special structure for people with disabilities, with three reserved areas: in front of Rua Duvivier, Rua Ronald de Carvalho and Avenida Prado Júnior.
Block
There will be 78 security towers along the coast and a Public Agency Center to monitor the eventnear Rua República do Peru. Pedestrian access will have 18 checkpoints, as in previous events, distributed throughout the Copacabana waterfront.
The Military Police will prohibit entry with glass bottles at roadblocks.
Also prohibited are the sale of glass bottles by street vendors, the fencing of public areas by stallholders, the use of an area larger than that authorized by kiosks, parking on roads closed by the Traffic Engineering Company (CET-Rio) and loading and unloading of goods outside of designated hours.
Interdictions
The Rio de Janeiro Traffic Engineering Company (CET-Rio) will implement a special traffic operation for the event.
The scheme will begin at midnight on Saturday (2), with the total closure of Avenida Atlântica and its access points for passenger cars, including the waterfront lanes and next to buildings, in addition to the prohibition of parking in Copacabana, Botafogo and Avenida Epitácio Pessoa, in Lagoa.
Charter buses will also be prohibited from entering Copacabana from midnight on Saturday.o, as well as parking in nearby areas, such as Botafogo, Ipanema, Urca, Avenida Epitácio Pessoa and Morro do Pasmado.
At 6pm on Saturday, the general blocking of access roads to Copacabana will begin, with the exception of taxis and regular buses. Aterro do Flamengo and Enseada de Botafogo will also be closed at this time, to prepare the bus terminal for public departure. At 7pm, the blockade will become total for all types of vehicles, including buses and taxis, which will no longer be able to circulate through the neighborhood.
Traffic in Copacabana will begin to be released from 4 am on Sunday morning (3). The lane along the edge of Avenida Atlântica, for the leisure area, will remain closed, as occurs on Sundays and holidays, in addition to 24 other external blocking points. From 10am onwards, the road next to the buildings on Avenida Atlântica will be opened. The reversible lane will be implemented on this track.
700 banners will be installed with instructions on the prohibition of parking in Copacabana, to alert drivers. Around 3 thousand vacancies will be eliminated in the region. 45 guidance lanes and 31 variable message boards will also be used, with information on changes in traffic, times and locations of closures, parking restrictions and traffic conditions.
The city hall recommends that the public give preference to public transport, especially the subway, which is not impacted by road closures; plan your journey in advance; avoid closed areas; use alternative routes; and follow the instructions of traffic agents and posted signage.
