New data from security cameras shed light on what happened in Washington, while the president of , , was attending an event with journalists.
In the video released by prosecutors, the gunman can be seen coming from the hotel entrance and in just four seconds passing through a security checkpoint, holding a long-barreled gun. At the same time, a security agent opens fire in his direction, it is not clear if the assailant managed to shoot.
The footage does not capture the moment of the arrest, when the suspect fell to the ground and immobilized at the Washington Hilton hotel on Saturday.
31-year-old Cole Thomas Allen is accused of attempting to assassinate Donald Trump, but has not yet pleaded guilty or not.
According to the US Department of Justice, the same video shows the defendant “spying” on the site a day before the event, having even declared himself to be a guest at the hotel. He is seen moving through the corridors and visiting the gym, presumably documenting the security conditions.

During the attack, carbine and three knives, while moving on the level of the hotel which was located one floor above the hall where the high security event was taking place.
The new video, released by Washington District Attorney Janine Pirro, shows a higher resolution than the original footage that was shared on social media after the incident.
It shows several security agents gathered at a checkpoint when a man in a long coat walks past and disappears through a doorway. Seconds later, he returns without the coat — which authorities say was hiding a rifle — and runs through the metal detector holding the gun.
The images also show a police officer firing at the suspect. Prosecutors said an agent was wounded by gunfire, but the alleged assailant was not.
