Face-to-face for the first time: Babiš will meet with Zelensky on Sunday, but he will not visit Ukraine

Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš will meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Armenia on Sunday. He told iDnes.cz about this planned meeting on Friday. It will be his first meeting with the President of Ukraine since taking office, writes TASR. Babiš is traveling to Yerevan for the summit of the European Political Community (EPC). “I will also have short bilateral meetings there with the British Prime Minister (Keir) Starmer, with the Serbian Prime Minister (Djur Macuta) or with the President of Moldova (Maia Sandu).

For the first time, I will also be negotiating with Ukrainian President Zelenskyi,” he said. Regarding the negotiations with Zelenskyi, he said that it is important that they meet. He stated that he is not going to visit Ukraine. However, according to his words, he could meet with Zelensky at the summit in Poland, which will concern the reconstruction of Ukraine. Babiš will fly to Armenia on Sunday (May 3) for the aforementioned EPC summit, which will deal with energy and economic security, the current geopolitical situation and strengthening stability in Europe.

The European Political Community is an intergovernmental platform for political and strategic discussion on the future of Europe, the creation of which was initiated by French President Emmanuel Macron in 2022 after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. It is an informal gathering of almost 50 heads of state and government of member countries of the European Union, Britain, Norway, Switzerland or Ukraine. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney was also invited to the summit in Armenia.
