Janones says Flávio will be a “very difficult” candidate to face

Federal deputy assesses that pre-candidate would inherit his father’s base and would find it easy to separate himself from rejection

The federal deputy (Avante-MG) stated that the senator and pre-candidate for the Presidency (PL) will be a candidate “very difficult” in the presidential race. The statement was given in an interview with released this Sunday (May 3, 2026).

“He’s a very difficult candidate. He’s the one I would least like to face”said Janones about Flávio Bolsonaro.

The deputy assessed that Flávio Bolsonaro has the characteristics that make him a complex opponent in the electoral field. Janones identified that Flávio would inherit his father’s support base. However, it would be easier to separate himself from the negative image associated with the former president.

“When you show yourself in an election campaign, it’s easier to separate yourself from rejection. ‘Look, the unbalanced one is my father. I am the candidate who got vaccinated’”, he said, when explaining how the candidate could position himself. At the same time, he highlighted that “the positive part comes naturally” through the surname.

“Flávio has an interesting situation, which is the fact that no one rejects him directly. Rejection is inherited from his father”he stated.

The deputy assessed that, during the campaign, Flávio could explore the difference between his image and his father’s to reduce the impact of rejection. It would, at the same time, maintain the political capital associated with the surname.

Janones stated that, despite considering the president (PT) as a favorite for re-election, the dispute is “absolutely open”. He highlighted that the scenario does not allow for easy predictions.

According to Janones, the election will require strong narrative competition, especially on social media. The deputy stated that the progressive camp needs to intensify communication to face competitive opponents like Flávio Bolsonaro. Janones also highlighted that the right has an advantage on social media, platforms that will be central in the electoral dispute.
