Property owners must pay attention to the tax calendar: payment of IPTU, for the previous year, takes place during the month of May and can be made until June 1st. The deadline applies to both the full payment of the tax and the first installment, when the amount exceeds R$100.
According to the calendar of payment obligations provided by the Tax Authority, and according to , taxpayers have until June 1st to pay the IMI, in cases where the tax is equal to or less than 100 euros.
When the amount to be paid is more than R$100, the same period is used to pay the first installment. Even so, those who prefer can pay the tax in full during the month of May.
Who pays everything at once?
The single payment applies to taxpayers whose total IMI value is equal to or less than 100 euros.
In these cases, there is no division into installments. The tax must be paid in full by June 1st, through the collection document issued by the Federal Revenue Service.
This document can arrive by mail or be consulted directly on the Finance Portal, in the area relating to properties and billing notes.
When is there payment in installments?
If the IPTU value exceeds 100 euros, the payment is divided into installments, depending on the total tax amount.
For amounts above R$100 and equal to or less than R$500, payment is made in two installments: the first until June 1st and the second in November.
When the IPTU exceeds R$500, the payment is divided into three installments: the first until June 1st, the second in August and the third in November.
You can pay everything in May
Even when the tax is more than R$100 and divided into installments, the taxpayer can choose to pay everything at once.
This option is available during the month of May and allows you to immediately settle all IPTU for the previous year.
For many owners, this can be a way to avoid forgetting in the following months, especially in August and November.
What if you didn’t receive the billing note?
Anyone who has not received the single billing document must confirm that their tax address is updated.
If you are not exempt and have IPTU to pay, you can request a duplicate from a Finance service or consult the billing note on the Finance Portal.
To do this, you must access the services area, choose the option related to properties and consult the available billing notes.
Pay attention to delays
Missing the payment deadline may result in additional costs, including interest and any charges associated with collection.
Therefore, owners must confirm the amount due and the deadline in advance, especially when they depend on receiving the letter on paper.
The date to remember is simple: all IPTU must be paid by June 1st, when the amount is equal to or less than 100 euros, or the first installment, when the tax is higher.
