Meloni does not share Trump’s threat to withdraw troops: “Italy always fulfills agreements”

The Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, stated this Monday that she does not share the threats of the American president, Donald Trump, to withdraw troops in Italy and other countries and has defended that her country has always been loyal to its allies.

The president was asked at the end of the summit in Yerevan of the European Political Community about Trump’s threat to reduce his troops deployed in Germany, Italy or Spain in retaliation for his positions regarding his war in Iran.

“Obviously this is a decision that does not depend on me and that I personally would not share,” said the prime minister, who has seen how in recent times her relationship, previously privileged with Trump, as her main European partner, has cooled.

In this sense, Meloni took the opportunity to clarify that Italy “has always respected its commitments and the agreements it has signed”, also within NATO and even “when direct Italian interests were not at stake”, he pointed out. (Efe)
