Brazil breaks oil production record amid the US and Israel war against Iran

In a scenario in which the global oil supply faces challenges caused by the war in Iran, the In March, Brazil reached a record in oil and gas production. In the month that coincided with the beginning of the war between the United States and Israel on Iran, the Brazil produced 5.531 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d). The previous record belonged to February, with 5.304 million boe/d.

Boe is a unit of measurement that standardizes the volume of natural gas and oil, converting the gas to the energy value equivalent to a barrel of crude oil. This way, it is possible to add up production. You Production data was released this Monday (04) by the National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP), the sector’s regulatory body, linked to the Ministry of Mines and Energy.

Separate production

Throughout March, 4.247 million barrels were extracted per daywhich represents an increase of 4.6% compared to February and 17.3% compared to March 2025. Natural gas production was 204.11 million cubic meters per day (m³/d), an increase of 3.3% compared to the previous month and 23.3% compared to March last year.

The ANP’s monthly bulletin reveals that the production of crude oil and gas in the pre-salt totaled 4.421 million barrels of oil equivalent per day. THE volume is also a record, rising 3.6% compared to February and 19% compared to the same month in 2025. The pre-salt, productive wells around 2 thousand meters deep in the water, represents 79.9% of Brazilian production.

The Búzios field, in the Santos Basin, on the southeast coast of the country, is the champion of oil production, with 886.43 thousand barrels per day. The field with the highest natural gas production is Mero, also in the Santos pre-salt, with 42.06 million m³/d.

Os fields operated by Petrobras, whether alone or in a consortium, produced 88.23% of everything that was extracted last month in the country. The Petrobras Almirante Tamandaré platform, in Búzios, was the structure that most helped with extraction, with 186 thousand barrels of oil per day.

Reinforcement in May

For the month of May, Brazil is counting on increased production of crude oil and natural gas. Last Friday (1st) Petrobras reported that it had started production on the P-79 platform, anchored in Búzios.

The start of production was brought forward by three months. The structure has the capacity to produce 180 thousand barrels of oil and gas compression of 7.2 million cubic meters (m³) daily.

Oil shock

After the start of the war in the Middle East, the Petrobras has sought to increase oil and gas production in the countryin order to reduce dependence on the external market.

Because of the conflict, oil transport was interrupted in the Strait of Hormuz, a sea passage in southern Iran that connects the Persian and Oman gulfs. Before the war, around 20% of world oil production passed through there.

O blockade of Hormuz has been one of the retaliations carried out by Iran. With less oil circulating through the logistics chain, the price of a barrel and derivatives has seen an increase in the last two months. During the period, a barrel of Brent (international reference) jumped from approximately US$70 to US$114.

As oil is a commodity, scarcity represents an increase in prices even in producing countries, such as Brazil. THE national government has taken initiatives to contain the rise of petroleum derivatives. Among the actions are exemption from tax collection and subsidies for producers and importers.
