Prisoner is caught with drugs, cell phone, SIM cards and USB cables in his body upon returning from a precarious exit

On Monday, the Judiciary Police detained an inmate who was returning from a precarious exit to the Guarda Prison Establishment. The man had to undergo emergency surgery to remove the objects.

Arrested by inspectors from the Guard’s Criminal Investigation Department (DIC), the man “carried with him, inside his body, around 230 individual doses of hash pollen, a cell phone, SIM cards and also USB cables“, said the PJ in a statement sent to the Lusa agency.

“Given the risk to his life, the inmate had to undergo an emergency surgical operation to allow the drug and other objects to be removed.”

The Judiciary highlighted that the drug seized represents “a notable and intended to supply other inmates, (…) sold at exorbitant prices”.

The arrest occurred following surveillance and prevention actions, carried out “in close collaboration and coordination with the body of Prison Guards and the management of the Guarda Prison Establishment”.

The detainee will be presented to the Department of Investigation and Criminal Action (DIAP) of Guarda.

The PJ warned of “the harmful effects of transporting drugs inside the body, which can cause overdose situations“.

The transport of objects, “under the same circumstances, can cause irreversible damage and with irremediable consequences for the quality of life”, added the Judiciary in the same statement.
