Algarve brings nature and wine tourism to Expovacaciones in Bilbao

Turismo do Algarve will once again be present at Expovacaciones, a tourism fair that takes place between the 8th and 10th of May, in Bilbao, reinforcing the promotion of the region within the Spanish market.

Considered one of the main fairs in the tourism sector in northern Spain, Expovacaciones brings together dozens of national and international exhibitors and thousands of visitors.

This year, Algarve Tourism presents itself in a joint space with the municipalities of Albufeira, Faro, Lagoa, Lagos, Loulé, Olhão and Portimão, in addition to Associação Odiana, in conjunction with Vila Real de Santo António, highlighting the diversity of the regional tourist offer.

Gastronomy and nature highlighted at the fair

As in the previous edition, the Algarve space also includes an area dedicated to the Communication and Branding Management Program for Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina, promoted by Turismo do Algarve and Turismo do Alentejo as part of the “Ao Natural É Melhor” campaign.

According to the organization, this initiative aims to reinforce the territory’s positioning “as an authentic, sustainable destination and deeply linked to nature”.

The Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina Natural Park appears as one of the main differentiating elements of the regional presence, with emphasis on the areas of nature tourism, gastronomy and wine tourism.

Throughout the three days of the fair, daily gastronomic demonstrations will be held, always at 1pm, led by chef Abílio Guerreiro and students from the Algarve Hotel and Tourism School.

The program includes dishes such as monkfish feijoada with prawns and salicornia from the Ria Formosa, chicken cataplana with spices and dried fruits and bonito from the Atlantic with xarém in cataplana broth and pennyroyal.

The sessions also include traditional Algarve desserts and wine tastings from the Algarve, Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina.

Spanish market remains strategic for the Algarve

The president of Turismo do Algarve, André Gomes, considers that “Expovacaciones is an important showcase to reinforce the Algarve’s notoriety in the Spanish market, responsible for more than 800 thousand annual overnight stays in the region”. https://www.turismodoalgarve.pt/

The person responsible adds that the event allows “to present an increasingly diverse, qualified and authentic destination” and “to value the territory’s distinctive assets, linked to nature, gastronomy and wines”.

Participation is part of the INTERNATIONALIZAR + ALGARVE 3.0 applications | Wine tourism and the Communication and Branding Management Program for Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina, reinforcing Algarve Tourism’s commitment to the international promotion of the region and its differentiating tourist products.
