The mayor of Moscow announced this Friday that around twenty drones had been shot down since the entry into force, at midnight, of the truce with Ukraine that Russia unilaterally declared for the commemorations of the end of World War II on May 9. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had shortly before warned several foreign leaders not to attend these parades. Russia, for its part, urged the population and diplomats to leave kyiv in the face of possible “retaliatory” attacks if Ukraine were to disrupt the events for the victory of the Soviet Union against Nazi Germany. Early on Friday, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported the interception of a total of 20 drones heading towards the Russian capital, in a series of posts on the Russian social network Max that ended at 10:44 p.m. GMT. The Russian unilateral truce had begun at 00:00 local time (21:00 GMT).
