Despite the attacks, US President Donald Trump insisted that the ceasefire was being respected.

A fragile ceasefire appears to be maintained this Saturday (9) after the United States attacked two Iranian oil tankerswhile Bahrain, the country that hosts the US Navy’s regional headquarters, said it had detained dozens of people who had links to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard.

Friday’s attacks (8) cast doubt on the month-long ceasefire that United States insists it is still in force. Washington awaits an Iranian response to its latest proposed deal to end the war, reopen the Strait of Hormuz and suspend Tehran’s controversial nuclear program.

The US Armed Forces reported yesterday that they disabled two Iranian oil tankers that were trying to break the American blockade of Iranian ports. Hours earlier, the American military had stated having foiled attacks on three Navy ships and struck Iranian military installations in the strait.

Meanwhile, on the small island in the Persian Gulf, The Americans announced yesterday the arrest of 41 people who, according to the US, are part of a group linked to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. The ministry said investigations were continuing to take additional action against anyone associated with the group, but did not provide further details.

A US attack overnight killed at least one sailor and injured 10 others aboard a cargo ship that caught fire, a news agency linked to the Iranian judiciary reported. It was unclear whether the ship was one of two oil tankers the U.S. admitted hitting.

Bahrain is governed by a Sunni Muslim monarchy, but, like Iran, its population is majority Shiite.. Human rights groups say the kingdom has used the war between Iran and the US, which maintains its Fifth Fleet in the country, as a pretext to crack down on internal dissent. The US claims to have responded to an attack in the Strait of Hormuz.

Despite the attacks, US President Donald Trump insisted that the ceasefire was being respected. He also reiterated threats to resume large-scale bombings if Iran does not accept a deal to reopen the strait and suspend its nuclear program.

On Friday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said stated that the country was not paying attention to “deadlines” and that Tehran continues to analyze a US proposal related to ongoing negotiations, according to state news agency IRNA.
