US President Donald Trump plans to fire Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Marty Makary. Sources familiar with the matter told Reuters, CNN and The Wall Street Journal on Friday, writes TASR.
Two Reuters sources said that the decision is not yet final. The FDA is a federal agency under the Department of Health. Under Makary and Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., thousands of employees left it, either through layoffs or voluntary departures.
Over the past week, reports of Makary’s possible impeachment have intensified amid criticism of his office, the FDA’s decisions and practices. in connection with the abortion pill mifepristone.
Surgical oncologist Marty Makary was confirmed to head the FDA last March. He has written several books on health care costs and the “failures of modern medicine.” He was one of the key supporters of Kennedy’s Make America Healthy Again movement.
