The star of the natural history programs celebrated his 100th birthday: Fans flooded David Attenborough’s house with postcards, his message is touching!

When it comes to birthdays, few are bigger than when Sir David Attenborough turns 100. In the days leading up to the big day, the BBC nature star has been inundated with hundreds of cards, packages and gifts from across the UK – some even from abroad.

In a statement of thanks, he admitted he had hoped his momentous jubilee would go unnoticed, but added he was “absolutely overwhelmed” by the news he had received. In a link uploaded to social networks, he is holding a house mouse from the Wild Isles documentary about British nature.

“I thought I would celebrate my 100th birthday quietly – but it seems many of you had other plans. I was completely overwhelmed by the birthday wishes, from children’s groups to nursing home residents and countless individuals and families of all ages. I simply can’t reply to everyone individually, but I would like to sincerely thank you all for your kind messages, and for those of you who have planned your own local celebrations for tomorrow, I wish you a very happy day.” he thanked.

As postmen arrived with arms and boxes of letters in recent days, Sir David was seen opening the door of his home in Richmond, south-west London, surprised and delighted by the number of thoughtful messages people sent him for his birthday.
