The life of actress Kamila Magálova (75) was forever marked by a huge tragedy. Her son Martin († 49) tragically died in 2024 in Italy while doing what filled him with joy. While the artist gave several interviews, her ex-husband Slavomír Magál mourned in silence. He made an exception on Boris Filan’s radio show, to which he accepted an invitation.
Horse polo became fatal for the lawyer. “It was an accident. You just changed horses. The thoroughbred was very nervous. The team was winning 7-4. Martin started on the field at full speed as soon as he got on his horse. It was the first action, he was chasing the ball himself. His horse spooked at a speed of 70 kilometers per hour. Martin flew 3.5 meters and fell to the ground,” said one of the VAS team members after being contacted by the Koktejl.sk editorial staff.
Martin Magál suffered internal fractures and had a severed aorta. “Nothing could be done anymore. It was a drama. We feel great sadness,” added a member of the VAS. The actress’ son succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. The family bid him a final farewell in silence. Both parents, Martin’s partner and his children were present at the funeral.
Slavomír Magál is a playwright, but also a horse trainer and breeder. In the interview, Filan did not directly ask about the tragedy, but the conversation turned to it after he found out whether riding is a dangerous sport. According to Magál, respect must be observed, safety regulations must be followed, and a helmet must not be missing. “Today there are also airbag vests, which I approve of. But there are no more injuries in riding than in mass sports such as football or hockey. Although it’s very difficult for me to say it, because my son killed himself when he fell from a horse, so that’s it… But nevertheless, I think you should ride,” he said.
The famous writer, lyricist and presenter followed up on a difficult topic sympathetically. “I have to say again that I am unimaginably sorry, because I considered him as my own. How did it happen?” he then asked directly. “At horse polo, his horse lunged forward when he saw the ball and then stopped abruptly. Martin did two somersaults and fell to the ground. In an Italian hospital an hour later, they determined that he had a torn aorta.” Magál described his son’s fatal accident.
Even a terrible accident did not shake his love for horses. What keeps him with them? “My grandfather, when I was 4 years old, put me on a horse, grabbed the bridle and sent me home. And the horse hit home, but the stable door was very low, so when he was going in, it knocked me to the ground. And after that fall I got close to that horse and since then I can’t tear myself away from them.” Slavomír Magál recalled.
