In the district of Bánovce nad Bebravou, a cyclist went off the road: He ended up in the hospital! After the intervention of the police, the truth came out

A cyclist with almost 2.5 per thousand of alcohol ended up in the hospital after falling on the bike on road III/1827 in the district of Bánovce nad Bebravou. The accident happened last weekend around noon. Trenčín regional police spokeswoman Petra Klenková informed TASR about this on Tuesday.

  • A fifty-five-year-old cyclist in the Bánovce district was drinking and then fell off his bike.
  • The accident happened last weekend around noon on a third class road.
  • The cyclist went off the road to the right onto the grassy area and fell.
  • A breath test showed 1.18 milligrams of alcohol, or approximately 2.46 per thousand.
  • Police warn that alcohol reduces the concentration of cyclists and endangers all participants.

“Based on the facts found so far, the 55-year-old cyclist probably did not fully devote himself to driving the bicycle and did not follow the road traffic situation, as a result of which he went with the bicycle off the road to the right, where he fell on the grassy area.” described Klenková.

A police patrol was also called to the scene of the accident. “The cyclist was subjected to a breath test by the police, which ended with a result of 1.18 mg/l of alcohol in his breath, which is 2.46 per mille. The man suffered injuries in the traffic accident, with which he was taken to the hospital,” Klenková zoomed in.

The police once again warn all road users that driving under the influence of alcohol is dangerous even for cyclists. “A bicycle is also a means of transport, and driving under the influence of alcohol significantly reduces the ability to concentrate, react correctly and handle situations safely on the road. Such actions could have had tragic consequences in this case,” emphasized Klenková. According to her, the police therefore appeal to cyclists not to consume alcohol before riding and to behave responsibly on the roads. “They protect not only their health and life, but also the safety of other road users,” added.
