British Prime Minister Keir Starmer refuses to resign from the head of the Labor Party and from the Prime Minister’s chair. Dozens of MPs from his own party are urging him to do so.
there are already 78 of them, which is only slightly less than the required 20% of the 403 members of the House of Commons of the British Parliament, i.e. 80 members.
Calls for his resignation come after Labor suffered a crushing defeat in Thursday’s local elections, with Nigel Farago’s populist Reform UK party emerging victorious.
Starmer told the cabinet that no one had started the process to remove the Speaker and that he would not be resigning.
According to information from Downing Street no. 10 declared “As I said yesterday, I take responsibility for these election results and I take responsibility for making the changes we promised,”
“The country expects us to continue to govern. That’s what I’m doing and what we have to do as a cabinet,” he added.
