She drowned after trying to save other sisters of the congregation, of which he was a local leader, during a community outing on a beach in Sicily, in southern Italy.
In the publication, Vatican News, stated that Nadir and the other sisters were in a shallow area of the sea when they were surprised by strong waves that swept them away. The nun managed to help and save some of her companions, but ended up losing her strength during the rescue.
One of the sisters tried to save Nadir, but the Brazilian was already unconscious and couldn’t resist.
“Sister Nadir was not a person of compromise. She was a woman incapable of being content with the mediocre, always in search of plenitude and refusing any form of superficiality. Her search for God was sincere and marked by authenticity”, stated the Bruno monastery in honor of Nadir.
Born in the interior of Bahia, Nadir lived a life far from faith before joining religious life, coming to define himself as a punk and anarchist. She had a trajectory marked by a profound spiritual transformation, which led her to consecrated life, assumed with intensity and a sense of purpose. As a personal motto, he chose a phrase from Saint John Paul II: “Love explained everything to me”.
