The security system is much stricter than during Lula’s visit to Beijing, when journalists circulated around the hotel where the PT member was staying
China has closed off the entire block where the Four Seasons hotel is located, where the President of the United States (Republican Party) is staying in Beijing. Anyone who tries to walk along the hotel street is stopped by police, who block the path and demand that they present a pin provided by the North American embassy. Without the credential, you won’t get anywhere near the accommodation.
The system set up for the North American leader contrasts with the security scheme when the president (PT) went to the Chinese capital in April 2023 and May 2025. At the St. Regis Beijing –– journalists walked calmly through the lobby, with access to the presidential delegation in the hotel lobby. The only security on site was a metal detector at the entrance in 2025. In 2023, there was no extra control whatsoever.
Security for Trump is justified by his status as leader of the most powerful country in the world and the attention he attracts. Dozens of curious Chinese gathered to see the car that took Trump to his first meeting with the Chinese president, (Communist Party of China), in the Great Hall of the People. During Lula’s visits, the greatest interest came from Brazilian journalists themselves.

WHAT WILL TRUMP DO IN CHINA
The North American’s two-night stay in the Asian country will be at the Four Seasons. Trump landed in the Chinese capital on Wednesday night (May 13, 2026) –Beijing time– and went straight to the hotel. This Thursday morning (May 14th) – Beijing time – Trump went to the reception prepared by Xi in the Great Hall of the People and then participated in a bilateral meeting with the Chinese leader. The top brass of the 2 governments were also present.
Trump will still have dinner with Xi in the evening. The next day, the leaders will meet once again before the Republican returns to Washington.
