Cristiano Ronaldo hit the post again in search of a title for Al-Nassr. This Saturday (16), the Saudi team was defeated by Gamba Osaka 1-0, in Riyadh, and finished runner-up in the Asian Champions League Two.
The decision was played at Alawwal Park, home of Al-Nassr, but the party was the Japanese team, considered an underdog in the final. Gamba Osaka scored with Deniz Hummet and held off the Saudi pressure for much of the match.
The defeat extends the season marked by high investments and great expectations surrounding the squad led by Jorge Jesus. The club tried to transform the million-dollar project into a major international achievement, but failed again at a decisive moment.
Since arriving in Saudi Arabia at the end of 2022, Cristiano Ronaldo has become the main face of the tournament and helped increase the championship’s global visibility. The presence of the Portuguese star paved the way for the arrival of other well-known European football players and put the Saudi tournament in the international spotlight.
Even with the number 7’s offensive protagonism throughout the season, Al-Nassr ends another competition without a trophy. The Portuguese was looking for his first since transferring to the club. It is worth remembering that the Saudi team won the Arab Champions League, a competition not endorsed by the AFC or CAF.
