The Russian ship sunk in 2024 off Cartagena was carrying components for a nuclear icebreaker

“To date no authority has attributed the sinking [del Ursa Major] to sabotage or deliberate attack,” the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, concluded this Monday in Congress, where she reported on the rescue operation of a merchant ship of the Russian military fleet about 60 nautical miles off the coast of Cartagena, on December 23, 2024, which resulted in the rescue of 14 of its 16 crew members. A CNN report asserted that the Ursa Major (Ursa Major, in Russian) transported nuclear reactor parts for submarines destined for North Korea. Robles has not supported this theory but has revealed that, according to the declared cargo, the ship was carrying “components intended for the construction of a Russian nuclear icebreaker,” in addition to empty containers, spare parts and two large Liebherr cranes.”
