94% of Brazilians consider their cities violent, says survey

A survey by OMA Pesquisa showed that only 5% of Brazilians do not see the city where they live as violent. According to the survey, 94% said they noticed some level of violence in the municipality.

Of this total, 42% classified their cities as “very violent”. See the numbers below:

The study also found that less than half of the population feels safe in the neighborhood where they live. Only 47% said they had.

Among the main reasons for fear of violence are, mentioned by 91% of those interviewed, in addition to drug trafficking and cell phone theft, both mentioned by 89%.

The survey interviewed 1,115 people in 40 Brazilian municipalities, in November 2025.

The survey also showed changes in behavior caused by insecurity. More than half of the population, 57% said they had changed habits or routines due to fear of violence. Among the main measures adopted are changing routes and.

“We cannot view violence just as statistical data, it is a phenomenon that permeates and interferes in people’s daily lives. The fear felt because of this scenario is legitimate and research shows that the population no longer accepts simplistic and punitive answers to their pains,” he comments. Women’s concerns and robberies

A is predominant in Brazil, regardless of income or age. However, women have higher levels of concern; 74% of them feel unsafe in cities.

Furthermore, 83% of people identified violence against women present in their cities, which demonstrates that gender-based violence must play a central role in discussions about public security in the country.
