President of the DC (Christian Democracy), João Caldas met this Tuesday (19) with the head of the PSDB, Aécio Neves, to seek the Planalto Palace.
but he says he will only accept the job if he has a campaign structure.
A small party, with no TV time, no right to participate in debates, and with few financial resources, the DC is looking for a larger partner to make Barbosa’s candidacy viable.
Caldas has already spoken to parties such as PSD, Republicans and Podemos, but none have yet committed to supporting the former minister.
With Aécio, the dialogue was described as positive, but it was not conclusive either. The tucano chief was left to consult the party and evaluate the scenario. The PSDB even launched the pre-candidacy of former minister Ciro Gomes, but he later preferred to try for the government of Ceará.
Caldas’ idea is to launch Barbosa with a platform defending ethics in politics and the Judiciary. The party has another pre-candidate, former minister Aldo Rebelo, who threatens to go to court if he does not have internal support.
