Argentina’s economic activity registered an increase of 3.5% in March compared to the previous month. The result was significantly above the market projection, which estimated an increase of 0.8%. The data was published by (National Institute of Statistics and Census), this Thursday (May 21, 2026). Read (PDF – 3 MB).
Compared to the same period last year, the Emae indicator, which measures Argentine economic activity and serves as a preview of GDP (Gross Domestic Product) increased 5.5%. The number exceeded the median of economists’ expectations, which was 2.1%.
The result interrupts the negative trajectory observed in February, when the country’s economic activity had decreased by 2.1%. With the March jump, the 3rd largest economy in Latin America signals a strong sectoral recovery.
SECTOR HIGHLIGHTS
The growth was due to the performance of the agricultural sector, which shot up 17.9% in the annual comparison. Another relevant pillar was mining, with an increase of 16.3%. On the opposite side, the only decline recorded by the Emae indicator occurred in public administration, defense and pensions, which fell 1.2%.
