Moraes sees no relationship with Hugo Motta and Ciro Nogueira in investigation into suitcases

The Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Alexandre de Moraes sent this Thursday to the first instance the investigation that investigates the irregular entry of luggage brought on a jet in which the President of the Chamber, Hugo Motta (Republicans), and Senator Ciro Nogueira (PP-PI) were present. Moraes ordered that the investigation in relation to the parliamentarians be archived and sent the files to the 1st Federal Court of Sococaba (SP).

Moraes responded to a request from the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), which did not see any irregular acts on the part of parliamentarians, who have privileged jurisdiction. In addition to Motta and Ciro, deputies Dr. Luizinho (PP-RJ) and Isnaldo Bulhões (MDB-AL) were on the flight.

“Although the list of passengers on the flight of the aircraft with prefix PP-OIG indicates the presence of authorities with jurisdictional prerogative before the Court, there is no question of the participation of any of them in the facts under investigation. In reality, the images indicate that the passengers underwent the style procedure regarding personal inspection. There is also no record of labels, with the names of the respective owners, in relation to the luggage referred to in the case. There is, finally, no evidence of a connection between the passengers on the flight and any conduct of criminal interest”, wrote the PGR.

Now, the investigation will only continue on people who did not have privileged jurisdiction, such as the owner and pilot of the plane. The private jet had landed in São Roque, in the interior of São Paulo, after returning from the Caribbean island of São Martinho.

The investigation was opened in January to investigate possible crimes of malfeasance and facilitation of smuggling or embezzlement by the inspector who allowed the bags to be unloaded without them going through the airport’s x-ray. Security camera footage from the executive terminal, used only for private flights, shows that an aircraft crew member passed outside the inspection device. In addition to suitcases, there were bags and a box on a cart used to transport the packages.

According to the PF, images from the airport show that only the aircraft crew member passed outside the x-ray machine with unidentified luggage. Investigators say, however, that “it is not possible to categorically state who the volumes belong to or their contents.” Given the presence of parliamentarians with forum prerogative among the passengers, however, the case was referred to the STF in April. The case was revealed by the newspaper Folha de S.Paulo and confirmed by GLOBO.
