The important Buddhist temple complex Daisho-in on the sought-after Japanese island of Miyajima has been struck by misfortune. A massive fire completely destroyed the historic Reikado Hall on Wednesday, with preliminary findings suggesting the fire started directly from the sacred “eternal flame” lit by a Buddhist monk more than 1,200 years ago.
A fire destroyed the Daisho-in temple complex on the Japanese island of Miyajima in Hiroshima Prefecture on Wednesday, Japanese media reported. The fire in the Reikado Hall apparently broke out from the so-called of the sacred “eternal flame” that was allegedly lit by a Buddhist monk over 1,200 years ago. TASR informs about it according to the reports of the British station BBC and Reuters.
The fire was reported on Wednesday morning and on Thursday the firemen confirmed that they managed to put it out. According to available information, no one was injured in the incident.
The sacred flame was saved and moved to another building. According to the Japan Times, the Reikado Hall, where it was kept, burned down in 2005. Subsequently, the building underwent reconstruction.
