The President of the United States, Donald Trump, considers launching new military attacks against Iran amid ongoing negotiations for a permanent ceasefire and apparent Republican frustration. The information was reported this Friday (22) by the broadcaster CBS and the digital newspaper Axios after the North American leader announced that he will not attend his son’s wedding this weekend, due to what he described as “government-related circumstances”.

The vehicles highlighted that a final decision about new attacks has not yet been taken. According to them, Pakistan, which acts as a mediator between the United States and Iran, sent its military commander to Tehran.

Wanted by AFPthe White House did not comment on the matter. According to the CBSspokeswoman Anna Kelly said that “the president was clear about the consequences if Iran fails to reach an agreement”.

Earlier, the White House announced changes to Trump’s plans for the weekend, and that the North American president will remain in Washington. Upon returning from a trip to New York State, where he gave a speech this Friday, the Republican did not meet the press.

Citing two anonymous sources, the Axios reported that Trump “shows himself increasingly frustrated with negotiations with Iran in recent days”, and that his stance changed from favoring diplomacy to being inclined to order an attack.

Based on unidentified sources, the CBS reported that members of the United States Armed Forces and intelligence services canceled their plans for the Memorial Day long weekend due to the possibility of attacks.
