Mayor of Krakow ousted by referendum

Warsaw – The mayor of Poland’s second largest city, Krakow, has been deposed in a referendum. In total, 97 percent of participants voted for the removal of Aleksander Miszalski, an ally of pro-European Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, as the local referendum commission announced on Monday. However, with a view to removing the center-left-dominated city council, the necessary quorum was not achieved so that it remains in office.
