Iran attacked Kuwait International Airport with drones and hit the passenger terminal. Injured people and chaos at the airport show a new round of escalating tensions.
Iran carried out a drone attack on Kuwait International Airport on Wednesday. Several people were injured and airport operations were suspended, Kuwaiti authorities said. The target of the attack was the passenger terminal. TASR informs about it according to AP and AFP reports.
The spokesman for the Kuwaiti Ministry of Defense, Brigadier General Saud Abd al-Aziz Utaybi, described the attack as a “criminal Iranian aggression that caused significant material damage” to the airport building and caused personal injuries.
Retaliation of the US Army
The drone strike followed Iran and the United States firing missiles at each other late Tuesday. The US military said it carried out attacks on Iranian military facilities in retaliation for previous Iranian missiles fired at Kuwait and Bahrain, the AP added.
Since the start of the US and Israeli attacks on Iran in late February, Tehran has repeatedly fired missiles and drones towards Kuwait and other Gulf states that host US military bases.
Sporadic attacks despite the ceasefire
Although a ceasefire has formally been in place since early April, sporadic attacks continue. Tehran sees them as retaliation for US military actions.
