The Superior Electoral Court (), the National Association of Public Defenders (Anadep) and the National Council of Public Defenders (Condege) signed on Monday (8) a technical cooperation agreement to guarantee free legal assistance to candidates and voters in situations of economic vulnerability.
The partnership provides for the role of Public Defenders in cases of gender quota fraud, in addition to situations of violence, political harassment and electoral harassment at work.
The agreement aims to ensure full and free assistance to people who cannot afford legal costs.
The document was signed by the president of Anadep, Fernanda Fernandes, and the president of Condege, Maria Luziane Ribeiro de Castro.
“This agreement allows us to effectively rely on the Public Defender’s Offices, in order to ensure that no person, especially those belonging to historically minority groups, such as women, black people and indigenous people, fails to fully exercise their rights due to lack of legal assistance”, stated Nunes Marques.
The agreement also includes campaigns, courses and educational actions aimed at promoting citizenship, democracy and electoral rights.
Joint action is also planned with the Regional Electoral Courts. The state companies will appoint employees specialized in electoral demands. The agreement was signed without transferring financial resources between the bodies and will be valid for five years.
