Michal († 27) did not hesitate for a second and jumped into the treacherous waters of the Morava River near the village of Brodské (Skalica district), to save a drowning 5-year-old girl, informed . Although he managed to get the child to safety, the strong current pulled him under the surface and the rescuers pulled him out without any signs of life.
An extremely sad event happened early Friday evening. The child began to drown right before his mother’s eyes. Panic immediately broke out on the shore, but at first no one dared to enter the water. The whole drama was watched from a distance by the witness Peter, who described the chilling seconds of horror. “Within seconds there was chaos, shouting and great fear. Everyone was shouting for help, no one wanted to jump into the river. Malinka started to disappear under the surface, it all happened very quickly,” he said.
At that moment, however, Michal appeared on the scene. According to witnesses, he jumped into the river without any thought. He managed to catch the girl in a flash and get her towards the shore. Once the little girl was safe, the situation took a fatal turn.
The treacherous currents of the river began to drag the brave rescuer down. “He suddenly began to sink and was already under water,” Peter added to the unexpected twist, after which the young man did not emerge above the surface. All rescue services were immediately called to the scene, which launched an extensive search. The tragic end was also confirmed by regional police spokeswoman Zlatica Antalová.
“The police can confirm that, shortly before 5:00 p.m., they received information about a person who should not have emerged from the water in the Morava River. The police, together with the firemen, immediately started searching for the person. Finally, the intervening firemen managed to pull the man out of the water, but without any signs of life.” she elaborated.
Michal’s sacrifice caused a huge wave of solidarity and sadness on social networks. Devastated family and friends remember the young man as a person with a huge heart, for whom helping others was a matter of course.
