The governor of Pernambuco, (PSD), recently gave signs of support for Miguel Coelho’s (União Brasil) candidacy for one of the Senate seats on her ticket.
Last Saturday (30), both were together at the launch of São João de Caruaru (PE), where they were photographed together.
Former mayor of Petrolina, the main city in the backlands of Pernambuco, Coelho is locked in an internal dispute with federal deputy Eduardo da Fonte, from the PP, for one of the places on Lyra’s Senate ticket. Both parties form a federation.
Last week, Coelho released a statement in which he reaffirmed his intention to be a candidate for the Senate, even if to do so he would need to run on a separate ticket, something that is permitted by electoral law.
His main asset is representing the hinterland, where 10% of the population lives, and which could be decisive in what the Lyra dispute tends to be.
