Bulgaria is a holiday classic for many Slovaks and they like to return to this country. In the past, low prices attracted tourists to the Balkans, but those days are long gone. This is also proven by the photo in the group on sparked a passionate debate. The picture shows the current price list for parasols, sunbeds and mattresses in the popular seaside resort of Zlaté Piesky.
Tourists get a big hit in the pocket. They charge 6 euros for renting a parasol and the same even for one sunbed. If someone is still interested in a mattress, the amount will be increased by another two euros. The resulting figure for a one-day rental per person climbs to a staggering 14 euros.
Renting for a week will take 98 euros out of a vacationer’s wallet. For a couple who rents two deckchairs with mattresses and one umbrella, it is more 150 eur, which is not an insignificant amount at all.
Slovaks and Czechs made their indignation clear in the comments under the post. “They’re kidding, aren’t they?” Petra wrote. “That’s why Bulgaria, never again, if they could skin you… but they don’t respect the customer,” added Aďa. “I’ll buy that deckchair with that money,” Lukáš remarked.
“What are they doing with those prices?” Peter wonders. “That’s why I don’t go to Bulgaria,” Ivo joined the debate. “I just found out that the lounger, mat and umbrella make more money than I do,” David joked to lighten the mood. Some vacationers simply avoid this problem even before arriving at the place. “That’s why I choose a hotel with beach service included in the price,” shared Ivana.
Vacationers are losing interest in Bulgaria
The travel behavior of Slovaks is changing. This is according to data from Kiwi.com. At the top of the list of the most popular summer countries for Slovak vacationers for 2026, Italy and Spain are steadily reigning. The third place was defended by Greece.
Interest in Poland increased by almost 81%, in Belgium by roughly 78%, and in Norway by almost 50%. Conversely, interest in Bulgaria fell by almost 18.5%, Malta by almost 19% and Croatia by 14.5%.
According to interest in specific cities, Malaga and Barcelona are on the first two rungs, which confirm the continued interest in Spain. The absolute jumper of the summer is the Italian city of Palermo in Sicily, which moved from 41st to sixth place in the ranking. Interest in Alicante in Spain and Naples in Italy also increased significantly. Interest in Bulgarian Burgas, which attracted the most last year, fell by more than 32%, and Spanish Palma de Mallorca fell by almost 34%.
