According to Wikipedia, Rasťo Piško was a former Slovak humorist, satirist, actor, moderator, impersonator and writer. “His humorous popularity was based on stylizing himself in a worker’s directness, simplicity and in antithesis to the intellectual pretense that distorts humanity,” introduces the imprecisely known online knowledge puller. Everything that the internet encyclopedia offers for explanation is still Piško. If not for a serious illness and his brave battle with cancer, he would have demonstrated his mastery of sharp language and political satire to the fullest.
However, despite the difficult diagnosis, the humorist continues to create and with the same taste as during the wild nineties. And his friends Miro Noga and Štefan Skrúcaný are with him like in the old days. Rasťo Piško became famous for his legendary Letters to the Prime Minister, for whom he raised an imaginary pig.
And our curiosity did not stop us from asking him what the current Prime Minister Robert Fico would find in him. “You would want a lot from me. I would be very sarcastic, I can tell you that. I would have to write a letter, but I would be very sarcastic and especially cruelly ironic, because I don’t like the current policy of this government.” said Piško without a napkin, who, although he has health problems, does not walk around with blindfolds. With a friend in the sanatorium where he lives, they do not miss any source of information, which they then conduct conversations about. Doesn’t he really turn off the TV when the going gets tough?
“I don’t switch off, I’m still watching TV. I listen to the news, I’m interested in everything that’s happening in the world. Of course, I swear at what I don’t like, but I don’t run away from reality,” stated Piško, for whom the political situation is grist to the mill for sarcastic creations. “I often think of many forums that could be used if a person had a show on television or radio, but that is such a small exercise. I write satirical bon mots, poems, I have enough of them already, so hopefully it will become a book. I am having fun and working slowly,” laughed Rasťo.
We wondered if his life was better as a pensioner. He recently admitted that he is not receiving a pension because he is still collecting his pension. He lived his youth in socialism, the autumn of his life caught him in democracy. Is he better?
“It is difficult to evaluate. The important thing is that there is still democracy. There is a pendulum that swings to the right, to the left, and hopefully it will swing to the opposite side again and we will try another government. And if it is not good, we will elect another one. Everyone says that the others can be even worse, but you don’t know that until you elect them. The important thing is that we can elect others. If we have to have only the same ones again, then we are where we were. Basically, I’m still angry, but basically satisfied.” concluded the popular artist.
