Without much excitement or loud outcry, Transport Minister Peter Hanke (SPÖ) announced in the spring that he wanted to reform the ÖBB group. However, he preferred to rely on the ÖBB bosses themselves for suggestions on how to get the state railway on track in the future. The board and supervisory board of the ÖBB holding company then worked out a proposal that was sent to the ministry a few weeks ago.
