Manchester United made official this Wednesday (10) the departure of Brazilian midfielder Casemiro, 33, ending the player’s time with the Red Devils after four seasons and 160 matches played.
The English club also confirmed the departures of Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia with the end of the European season.
Casemiro will be at the World Cup and should be a starter for the Brazilian team at the tournament. Brazil is in Group C, alongside Morocco, Scotland and Haiti, and will debut next Saturday (13), at 7pm, against the Moroccans.
The midfielder’s departure had already been announced by the club in January this year. The contract provided for the possibility of renewal for another season, but the board chose not to exercise the clause. The decision is part of the process of reformulating the squad for the coming years.
Casemiro arrived at Manchester United in 2022, after a successful nine-season spell at Real Madrid. In the Spanish team, he was one of the pillars of the midfield and won five Champions League titles, in addition to three editions of the Spanish Championship.
At the English club, the Brazilian played an important role in winning the 2023 English League Cup, scoring a header in the 2-0 victory over Newcastle in the final. He was also part of the FA Cup winning squad in 2024.
The midfielder was one of the most important players during Tite’s time with the Brazilian team, between 2016 and 2022.
Under Carlo Ancelotti, with whom he worked at Real Madrid, Casemiro regained his starting status. He played 11 of the 12 matches played for the national team after the Italian’s arrival here, alternating with defender Marquinhos as captain.
The player arrives at the World Cup with prestige again and is considered one of the most established names in the team’s midfield, alongside Bruno Guimarães.
In addition to Casemiro, Manchester United officially announced the departure of Sancho and Malacia. The English striker was signed from Borussia Dortmund in 2021 for 85 million euros and played 83 games for the club.
Malacia arrived at Old Trafford in 2022, coming from Feyenoord, for 15 million euros. The Dutch left-back played 50 games for the English team.
