Ambassador Martin Skala (Marián Mitaš) After spending two years in New York, he finds himself in Tunis, where he participates in the opening of the new Slovak embassy. He is a prominent character in the series Lucia (Natália Germáni), the owner of a travel agency, who moves between tourists, local residents and the diplomatic environment of the embassy.
Nina (Jana Labajová) and Filip (Daniel Žulčák) also live out their story at the embassy. Both are promoted, with Filip taking on the post of consul, which the ambitious Nina can hardly bear. The series will feature ten stories taking place in exotic Tunisia. Each episode works as a separate story and will offer viewers the holiday atmosphere that Slovaks love and know very well. The smell of the sea brings a carefree feeling of summer and relaxation.
The character of the actor Marián Mitaš (in the series Martin Skala) comes to Tunisia to start a new life. Did he also feel like he was in a completely different world after his arrival? “Well, I had that. As soon as we left the airport, I had the feeling that we were in a completely different world, because it is a few hours’ flight from Bratislava, but the company, the country, the cars… everything is completely different, everything is completely different. And there are… perhaps what is similar is the vast differences. Even though it seems to be accelerated there, that there is a difference between the poor and the rich.” zoomed in for Koktejl.sk.
And he spent months there, when he realized what contrasts some countries offer. “And maybe not even that the gap is bigger, but it’s all shifted a bit. Those people who are rich, or the middle class, the possibly higher middle class is a bit lower than in Slovakia, but then again, the poverty there is huge.” explained the artist.
“On the one hand, there are very well-preserved monuments, which you can also see here in the series, and on the other hand, there are neighborhoods where garbage collectors are afraid to come, so garbage is not actually taken out there and there are landfills. And it is strange that the neighborhoods are next to each other. On one side there is a neighborhood with white houses, with huge gardens, with palm trees and beautiful flowers and swimming pools, and right at the end of that neighborhood just starts a poor neighborhood where there is a huge pile of garbage and people live in…” the actor continued and paused.
That’s where the differences show. “I didn’t even see how, but I assume whole families in some one-room apartments, because it looks very similar. So… I was a bit shocked by that country. Since we actually had time to experience it there for two months, I got through it a bit. The differences are really huge.” Mitas admitted.
Before that, he filmed in Istanbul, which was, after all, closer to Slovakia than Tunis. “That Tunis already knew how to be… I’m not saying dangerous, but a person already had to choose whether to pass through this alley or not. There were also alleys or places where they did not recommend us to go at all. There were also alleys that you wouldn’t be able to enter from the looks of it,” he soberly described the reality of the popular vacation country.
