The Municipality of São Brás de Alportel unanimously approved a vote of condolence for the death of João Carlos Valagão Mendonça, a citizen from São Paulo who marked the community through his career linked to sport, business activity and local associational life.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the municipal executive, held on June 8, at a time that the municipality describes as one of “deep consternation”.

According to the Municipality, João Carlos Valagão Mendonça was “a São Brasense citizen who was highly respected by everyone”, leaving with his departure “a huge void in his community”.

Producer and trader in the wine sector, man linked to sport and reference figure of the União Desportiva e Recreativa Sambrasense, João Carlos Valagão Mendonça passed away at the age of 69.

A life linked to União Sambrasense and the community

Affectionately known as João Carlos Sales, he began his sporting career at a very young age, joining the first youth and junior squads of União Sambrasense.

Over the years, he became one of the figures who helped build the identity of the community, distinguishing himself, according to the city hall, “for his dedication, character and passion with which he wore his colors”.

The Municipality also remembers the eternal “captain” as someone who marked generations of athletes, managers and friends, especially in the 70s and 80s, being remembered as a leader on and off the field.

A reference in São Brasense football

His versatility, combative spirit and dedication made him a reference in São Paulo football and a living memory for everyone who shared his sporting journey with him.

In his professional life, João Carlos Valagão Mendonça dedicated himself to the family company Adega Sales Valagão, founded by his grandfather, Francisco Sales Valagão, continuing a legacy linked to the Gralheira site and local economic history.

The city hall highlights him as “A man of principles, integrity and great humanity”, highlighting that he guided his life by the values ​​of honesty, loyalty and service to others.
