Pinto da Costa was reportedly bedridden when 600 thousand euros were withdrawn from his accounts

Former FC Porto president Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa (right) listens to his wife, now widow, Claudia Campo (left) at Teatro Coliseu do Porto, on February 4, 2024, after presenting his candidacy for re-election.

Bill reduced to a penny, a medical treatment that didn’t happen and a signature different from the one on the will: Justice demands explanations from Cláudia Campo, the widow of the historic Porto president.

Bank transactions carried out in the accounts of the former president of FC Porto, Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa, were being investigated. In question, money that left his accounts in the months before his death, at a time when the late Porto player was already very weak, even bedridden.

According to, dozens of withdrawals and transfers are in the crosshairs of justice, some with high values, whose legitimacy is now contested within the scope of the sharing process brought by the eldest son, Alexandre Pinto da Costa, who has been involved in suspicious movements since at least April last year.

Non-existent treatment, different signature

Among the documents attached to the process will be a declaration that Pinto da Costa would have withdrawn 600 thousand euros in cash in December, around two months before his death.

The authenticity of this document is now challenged in court: according to information from the CM, the justification presented for the withdrawal referred to a trip to the United States and medical treatment, but neither of those situations actually occurred.

The document also raises other doubts on the part of the prosecution: it will not have the signature of any bank employee, nor the institution’s stamp, and the signature attributed to Pinto da Costa will be different the one contained in the amendment to the will, also made in the last months of the former director’s life.

Cláudia Campo in the crosshairs

And the wind Claudia Campois targeted in the civil action and will now have to justify the transfers and supposed donations made by her husband, according to the morning newspaper. They will have been 100 thousand euros transferred to your accountonly in one of the cases mentioned in the action.

The investigation also points out that some of Pinto da Costa’s bank accounts will have been practically empty. At Santander, the bank where Cláudia Campo worked when she met the former Porto leader, only one cent remains.

Despite the withdrawals, around 700 thousand euros would remain in financial investments, amounts that allegedly could not be moved and which must be part of the sharing process, which has yet to be concluded.

Alexandre Pinto da Costa recently won an appeal at the Porto Court of Justice, which determined that the case should proceed to trial in the Civil Court. At the same time, there is a criminal action related to the authenticity of some documents and financial transactions carried out before the death of the former president of FC Porto.
