After 28 years of absence, Norway returned to the World Cup this Tuesday (16) with a 4-1 victory over Iraq, led by top scorer Erling Haaland, who scored twice in his World Cup debut.
The Scandinavian team confirmed expectations of reaching the tournament with a generation considered the best in its history and started well in Group I, which earlier saw France win 3-1 over Senegal.
In the 29th minute, Haaland took advantage of a cross from David Möller Wolfe to open the scoring and score his first goal in World Cups. But when the party looked Norwegian, Iraq reached a partial draw with a header from experienced striker Aymen Hussein (39′).
Equality only managed to wake up the giant again. In a ball from the Iraqi defense, defender Zaid Tahseen retreated short to goalkeeper Jalal Hasan and Haaland took advantage to send the ball into the net (43′).
In the second half, Norway imposed its collective and offensive power with its performances highlighted by midfielder Martin Odegaard and striker Alexander Sorloth.
After confusion in the area, the score closed.
