The Health Committee of the Chamber of Deputies approved the bill that guarantees patients with diabetes access, in the Unified Health System, to different classes of medication to control blood sugar levels.
The approved text is the version of the rapporteur, deputy (PL-RN), for PL 2,725 of 2024, of the deputy (MDB-AP).
The original proposal only established the inclusion of the medicine on the free distribution list. The approved wording ensures that comprehensive assistance follows the evolution of treatments and the specific needs of each patient.
TECHNICAL AND ECONOMIC ASSESSMENT
Carla Dickson declared that the inclusion of new medicines will continue to depend on technical and economic analyzes by the Ministry of Health. According to the rapporteur, the use of the force of law to define specific products would compromise the efficiency of public management.
The deputy stated that the public health network must have modern drugs with fewer adverse effects, but always based on clinical protocols.
“The idea of technical-scientific and economic evaluation is that the SUS can carry out more actions with fewer resources”, these.
The approved text also establishes that the offer of new treatments must follow the procedures for incorporating technologies already determined in SUS legislation.
NEXT STEPS
The proposal will still be analyzed, in , by the Finance and Taxation and Constitution and Justice and Citizenship committees. To become law, the text must be approved by the Chamber and the Senate.
