The dispute increases uncertainty in the Persian Gulf.
The US military on Saturday denied Iran’s claims that it had closed the Strait of Hormuz. This key sea route remains open, she said, and the US military is monitoring the situation. TASR took over the report from the Reuters agency.
“Iran does not have control over the Strait of Hormuz,” Capt. Tim Hawkin of the U.S. Army’s Central Command (CENTCOM) told Reuters.

“Shipping continues to take place and US forces are monitoring the situation to ensure that continues to be the case,” he added.
Hawkin’s comments came hours after Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Command announced it had closed the Strait of Hormuz again in response to Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon. It called the attacks a violation of the memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States.

US Vice President JD Vance also denied this claim to Fox News at around the same time.
Reuters emphasizes that Tehran’s assertions have raised new doubts about the future of the aforementioned memorandum between the US and Iran, which was supposed to pave the way for negotiations on a final peace agreement between the countries.
