Iran’s Revolutionary Guard indicates closure of Hormuz due to breach of US agreement

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran (IRGC) signaled this Saturday, the 20th, the closure of the Strait of Hormuz to maritime traffic in view of “the flagrant breach of promise and non-compliance on the part of the United States” with regard to the non-implementation of the first paragraph of the agreement to end the war.

In a message via Telegram, the IRGC also says that the closure of the important sea route is in response to the “incessant and continuous violation” of the ceasefire by the Israeli regime in southern Lebanon and “the merciless murder and displacement of hundreds of thousands of oppressed people from this land”.

“It is noted that this first step is a response to the breach of promise by the enemy and, if the aggression continues, other measures will be planned and taken to force the enemy to fulfill its obligations,” the IRGC wrote in the message.

At the same time, a spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry emphasized that Tehran has fulfilled its commitments and that “the other party” – without explicitly mentioning the US – is obliged to force the Israeli regime to stop attacking Lebanon.

“If some of the other party’s commitments are not fulfilled, the entire understanding will be at risk,” the representative told Fars. “The other party must take necessary measures as quickly as possible. If the other party refuses to fulfill its commitments, Iran will respond with necessary measures,” he added.

The spokesperson indicated that Iran “has not signed a commitment that will not be fulfilled” and, therefore, the Iranian approach is “commitment for commitment”. Projecting the planned negotiations with the US in Switzerland, he stated that Tehran will demand compliance with Washington’s commitments and clarify the plans for their implementation.
