Shinnecock Hills finally showed its nails. After two somewhat more friendly first days, the New York course that hosts this US Open showed all its toughness in the greens. Only two players managed to get below par in the third round of the championship, the world number one, Scottie Scheffler (-1 in the day and in the total) and the Argentine Emiliano Grillo (-3 in the day and in the par in the accumulated). Above all mortals, the American Wyndham Clark remains in the classification with -7 after tying with Shinnecock in this third round. Clark maintains a six-shot lead over Scheffler, Theegala, Tom Kim and Sam Stevens, the only five golfers in the red.
