A couple was arrested after climbing the Empire State Building, in New York, USA, this Wednesday (1st) and hanging a banner from the skyscraper’s antenna with the words: “When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace”. Upon reaching the top, the pair – apparently – got engaged, according to the North American website CBS.
American authorities still do not know how the two reached the highest point of the building. US police worked to remove them from 443 meters high.
Due to police activity, the New York Police reported on the social network X that the streets near Fifth Avenue and 34th Street in Manhattan were blocked.
The climb began in the early afternoon local time. The two, who appeared to be a man and a woman, were seen wearing masks.
A spokesperson for the Empire State Building said that the case has already been resolved and that it did not cause any problems for the tourist attraction’s operation.
“The unauthorized incident at the building was resolved with the constructive and helpful coordination of the New York Police Department (NYPD). At no time was there any danger to tenants, visitors, and patrons of the Empire State Building Observatory. Importantly, the Empire State Building Observatory, atop the world’s most famous building in downtown New York, offers a convenient way to carry out the most memorable marriage proposals.”
