The minister of , formalized a request for an opinion to the PGR (Attorney General’s Office) about the film financing investigation “Dark Horse”a production inspired by the former president’s political trajectory Jair Bolsonaro (PL). The order was sent on Tuesday (30).
The PGR’s manifestation is a step foreseen in the Court’s internal regulations. According to the Court’s rules, the STF cannot alone open an investigation based on a crime report received. Therefore, it is up to the Prosecutor’s Office to analyze whether there is sufficient evidence to request the opening of an investigation or whether the case should be archived.
The process is under secrecy and came into the hands of Mendonça after a decision by the president of the STF, minister Edson Fachinwhich determined the .
The change was suggested by minister Alexandre de Moraes, rapporteur of the inquiry investigating the actions of the former deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) in the United States, a process in which the original request for the feature film had been included.
The redistribution occurred after the Judiciary Secretariat itself which is why Fachin ordered the case to be sent to Mendonça, who is already the rapporteur for other cases involving the bank.
“Dark Horse”
The criminal news that gave rise to the investigation was presented by the federal deputy Lindbergh Farias (PT-RJ)after the release of audios linking Flávio Bolsonaro and the former banker Daniel Vorcaroowner of Banco Master, to finance production.
In May, the newspaper The Intercept Brazil revealed recordings in which Flávio asks Vorcaro for resources to pay for the film. Another report from the same vehicle pointed out that Eduardo Bolsonaro would have been responsible for managing the amounts donated by the banker, after assuming the role of executive producer of the work.
In the request sent to the STF, Lindbergh requested the investigation of possible irregularities in the film’s financing, raising the suspicion that Master resources intended for production may have been diverted to benefit the Bolsonaro family, in connection with Eduardo’s actions against Brazilian institutions abroad.
Now, it is up to the PGR to decide the next steps in the investigation.
