Prison of América-MG player for racism is the first in 2025

The arrest of players in the act for racial injury is rare in Brazilian football. According to Marcelo Carvalho, from the Observatory of Racial Discrimination in Football, one of the last cases in official competitions was in 2005, in São Paulo match against Quilmes, for the Copa Libertadores

This Sunday (5), the Bolivian athlete of América-MG, Miguel Terceros, was arrested in the act, after the match between Operário and América-MG, in Ponta Grossa, Paraná. This was the first case of arrest registered in 2025. Rabbit denies the accusations.

According to the last report of the Observatory of Racial Discrimination in Football 2023, the accusations are mostly fans assaulting players. Of 162 occurrences, 128 began with fans, while 12 athletes were accused of racist offenses. However, the accused often respond to lawsuits in freedom without first having, for example, for caught arrests, whether temporary or preventive.

2005: Graffiti x Desábate

In 2005, the first confrontation between Quilmes and São Paulo, Argentina, had tricolor complaints for racist offenses. The team even apologized to the Brazilians, but the situation worsened in Brazil.

In the return match at Morumbi, striker Graffiti accused defender Leandro Desábato that he called him “black shit.” The Argentine received a prison voice on the lawn.

Submitted to the 34th DP, in São Paulo, Desábato spent 43 hours arrested and only returned to Argentina after the payment of 10 thousand reais in bail.

2025: Third X Allano

Miguelito would have uttered the expression “Black of the C ******” against the Operário midfielder, 30 minutes into the first half. The offense was confirmed by the victim and the captain of the team from Paraná, the player Jacy, who witnessed the episode.

The racist speech was not recorded by the cameras of the official transmission.

Referee Alisson Sidnei Furtado immediately interrupted the match and applied the CBF Anti -Racism Protocol, crossing his fists. The game was paralyzed for about 15 minutes. After the games, those involved were taken to the Military Police Battalion.

Police considered enough testimonials to the act and requested images of the game broadcast. The player remains in prison. CNN awaits the manifestation of the player’s defense.
